GameFace 9 | The Irish Duelist

GameFace 9

And now for something a little different..

When I started this blog back in September it was part of my college work. After many months of experimentation and so on, I've finally got my finished piece:

GameFace 9 from PJ Tierney on Vimeo.

"Games have always been a part of my life, and I have always been a competitive person because of it. For this exhibition I wanted to focus on the players instead of the game itself and I would like to think that it worked well in this video."
-Artist's comment from 'Vacant' Exhibition Catalogue.

"PJ Tierney plays with the obsessive gesture in his video works. This too is like an uncanny observation. The subjects are monitored as if they were being filmed in a lab, the video work seems to reference contemporary horror film too, such as Vincenzo Natali's Cube (1997). The obsession and desperation, elation and loss of his subjects are captured in such a way as we don't know what it is they are so desperately trying to do but we have an inkling that it is a computer game, where everything is at stake."
-Extract from 'Vacant' curator Aideen Barry's Exhibition Catalogue introduction.
