Yu-Gi-Oh!’s World Championship Qualifier structure for 2011 revealed!

Dear Duelists,

At the beginning of the new year, we want to give you an overview of what to expect for 2011 regarding Organized Play for the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME. We know you have been eagerly awaiting news regarding the new European tournament structure, and can promise it will give you plenty of exciting opportunities to duel both casually and competitively, in your local store as well as on a larger level.

This year’s event calendar will continue all the programs that were run in 2010, albeit some of them will undergo some changes.
For the more competitive players, we will of course offer National Championships, run between May and June. To present as many Duelists as possible with the chance to participate in those events, National Championships will not require any prior qualification this year – instead, anyone can come and participate! Some countries will hold National Trials, which offer free entry to the respective National Championship, and special gamemats to the Top2 finishers.

If you finish high enough in your National Championship, you will earn a qualification and travel to the European Championship, which will be run in July, in Spain. There, you will have a shot at qualifying for every ambitious Duelist’s ultimate goal: The 2011 World Championship (held in Japan, in August). For each 6 participants in a National Championship, there will be one qualifying slot towards the European Championship.

National Championships will not be the only way to qualify for the European Championship, though: Stores all across Europe will also offer Regional Championships. Unlike last year, the top finishers of those events (1 slot for each 8 participants) will qualify directly to the European Championship! These Regional Championships will be run continuously throughout the year – events being run later than the 2011 European Championship award qualification for the 2012 European Championship already.

In addition to this new and exciting way towards the National, European and World Championship, we will also continue to hold Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series (YCS) events in Europe. Last year, more than 2000 Duelists attended the two YCS events in Bochum and Milan; we plan to hold more than only two of those events in 2011 – the first one even before the Nationals season begins – and expect to see similar attendances again!

For each of those programs, we will post details about prizes, structure, venues and dates soon, so stay tuned to! For now, we trust that you are as excited about this news as we are, and continue to enjoy the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME.

Happy Dueling!
