My favourite Gold Series cards.

Gold Series 4: Pyramids Edition hit the shelves this week and it contains reprints of many competitive and hard to find cards from the past! There are cards in there for all kinds of Duelists, and even a few that are making their first appearance outside of North America! Here are 3 of my favourite cards from the set and how you can make the most of them in your Decks.

Doomcaliber Knight is seen by many Duelists as the highlight of Gold Series 4: Pyramids Edition as it’s a highly competitive card that was very hard to get before. Doomcaliber Knight was initially released as a prize card similar to the YCS Darklord prize cards a few years ago before becoming the Ultra Rare in Turbo Pack: Booster One. We’re coming up to Turbo Pack: Booster Six soon which means that Doomcaliber Knight has been unavailable to Duelists for quite a long time. With Gold Series 4: Pyramids Edition however everybody will have another chance to pick up this incredibly useful card!

Doomcaliber Knight is often seen in Chaos Decks (which combine the DARK Doomcaliber with LIGHT cards like Thunder King Rai-Oh, as well as Chaos Sorcerer) and is a popular choice in Side Decks for certain matchups. With 1900 ATK and the ability to negate the next monster effect that comes along it’s certainly a useful card to have in a tight spot. Many Duelists have wanted to build Chaos Decks in recent times as they do well against many of today’s top Decks, but Doomcaliber Knight was often too difficult to obtain. With the card getting a new lease of life we should see more of these Decks in the near future!

Five-Headed Dragon is one of the key cards in Dragon Decks as you can’t really play Future Fusion (which fills up your Graveyard) without it. It’s also quite a rare card that’s even older than Doomcaliber Knight! In most Dragon Decks you need to fill up your Graveyard quite quickly and while Dragon Ravine is a great card it isn’t always fast enough. If you play Future Fusion though and reveal Five-Headed Dragon for its effect, you get to send any 5 Dragon-Type monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard! More often than not you’ll be sending Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon (REDMD), multiple copies of Red-Eyes Wyvern, and one or two other Dragon-Type monsters to the Graveyard. Then in your End Phase you can revive REDMD with Wyvern’s effect and bring back the rest of your Dragons soon after. On top of that you’ll be getting the 5000 ATK Five-Headed Dragon in 2 turns time!

Another card that’s useful in Dragon Decks is Genesis Dragon, which is making its way to Europe and the rest of the world for the very first time! Once per turn you can use Genesis Dragon’s effect to send a Dragon-Type monster from your hand to the Graveyard to add a different one from your Graveyard to your hand. This is great for when you have cards like Totem Dragon and Red-Eyes Wyvern in your hand and something like REDMD or Light and Darkness Dragon in your Graveyard as you can swap their positions and set up big combos down the line.

Genesis Dragon also lets you do a great combo with REDMD and Light and Darkness Dragon. For this you need to control Light and Darkness Dragon and have REDMD and Genesis Dragon in the Graveyard (Genesis can also be in your hand for this). When Light and Darkness Dragon is destroyed you can Special Summon REDMD with its effect, then with REDMD’s effect you Special Summon Genesis Dragon. After this use Genesis Dragon’s effect to add Light and Darkness Dragon to your hand and Tribute your 2 monsters to Summon it! So long as you keep drawing Dragon-Type monsters you’ll be able to do this over and over again until you win the Duel!

These are just 3 of the cards I’m excited about getting in Gold Series 4: Pyramids Edition but there’s plenty more in there for everybody. It’s available in most Official Tournament Stores right now so feel free to pick up a pack and find out about the rest of the cards!
