Premium Rank 3 Xyz Summoning tips!

Here's my latest article for Konami's official Yu-Gi-Oh! Strategy Site, taking a look at some of the cards from the recently released Premium Collection mini-tin. You can view the article by clicking this link or reading below.

Rank 3 is a pretty good Rank to be if you’re an Xyz Monster. There’s a wide variety of ways to Summon Rank 3 monsters and many Decks you see these days make use of Leviair the Sea Dragon, Number 17: Leviathan Dragon, Wind-Up Zenmaines and more. The Premium Collection mini-tin brings you 2 more great ways to make Xyz Summoning these monsters, and others, a lot easier!

Junk Forward is one of Yusei’s cards from the 5D’s manga that you might not have seen yet. His Level 3 Warrior-Type monster can be Special Summoned from your hand when you control no monsters even if your opponent doesn’t either, much like Photon Trasher. Since Xyz Monsters require 2 or more monsters to be Summoned, Junk Forward’s handy in that it doesn’t use up your Normal Summon for the turn. Follow it up with another Level 3 monster and you’re all set!

One neat combo would be to combine Junk Forward with Tour Guide From the Underworld. After you Special Summon Junk Forward with its effect, Normal Summon Tour Guide and get another Level 3 monster from your Deck. With 3 monsters on the field you can overlay them all to Xyz Summon Number 34: Terror-Byte, and start taking your opponent’s monsters!

As you’d expect, Junk Forward’s also handy in Yusei-themed Decks, as it’s another free Summon for you to set up big plays with. One such play would be to Special Summon Junk Forward, and then Normal Summon Junk Synchron. Even if you don’t have any monsters to Special Summon from the Graveyard, your 2 Junk monsters can either be used for a Rank 3 Xyz Summon, or a Level 6 Synchro Summon! (And if you have a Level 2 monster in the Graveyard, you can Synchro Summon Junk Destroyer and destroy 2 opposing cards!)

Kagemucha Knight’s another Premium Collection card that can help out with Rank 3 Xyz Summoning as it too can be Special Summoned for free. Whenever you Normal Summon a Level 3 monster, you can Special Summon this DARK Warrior-Type monster from your hand, and since it’s a Level 3 monster itself, Kagemucha Knight’s another easy way to Summon Rank 3 Xyz Monsters. Remember, when you have multiple effects that trigger at the same time, you get to choose the order they go on the Chain. So if you Normal Summon a monster with an effect that Special Summons, like Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki or Marauding Captain (both Warriors and searchable by Reinforcement of the Army, just like Kagemucha Knight) you can arrange the effects so that only Kagemuch Knight can fall victim to Solemn Warning, protecting your more important Special Summon effect.

Many decks play Level 3 monsters, whether you plan on Xyz Summoning or not. T.G. Decks have T.G. Warwolf, Six Samurai use Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki and Dark World Decks have Broww, Huntsman of Dark World. In addition to these almost every Deck runs Sangan, so it’s easy to fit Kagemucha Knight into your Deck if you need more ways to Summon Rank 3 monsters.

Both of these cards are available now (tomorrow in the States!) in the Premium Collection mini-tin (along with Number 34: Terror-Byte if you’re looking for something to Xyz Summon) so go ahead and try them out if your Decks needs more Rank 3 action!
